West Ottawa wrapped up its 2nd annual Olympic developmental camp last week with a good showing at the 2017 Myrmidon Spring Classic. For six weeks, Panther wrestlers and wrestlers from West Michigan gathers on Monday and Tuesday nights to learn technique from former national team members and distinguished alumni. Then on Friday nights, the wrestlers gathered to wrestle in small in house tournaments that gave them a a chance to try freestyle and greco-roman wrestling, the two styles offered in the Olympic games. These "Fight Nights" were an inexpensive yet vital exposure for wrestlers to the sport. For those who couldn't make it (and for those who wish to review) below is the technique that was shown. Please share with those that would like to learn freestyle or greco technique.
Also, here are some photos from the Myrmidon Fight Nights. We hope to see even more next year.

West Ottawa wrestling is continuing to grow and the youth and now middle school level. Many new changes are happening this year, including new coaches and an expanded roster. For the first time, 6th graders will be able to compete at the middle school level. This will give them a huge advantage against other tams as we will get an additional year of training under our belt. HOLLAND, MI
Panthers got another head start on the season by competing in the 2nd Annual Black n' White Inner Squad at West Ottawa High School. Although a few of the team was elsewhere at an orchestra concert; the ones that did remain put on a great show for the youth team, the parents, the fans, and the alumni. Though this was just a fun night to get the team more matches, it also serves as a guiding light for the coaches when looking to put together the initial starting line up. The Panthers wrestle on the road next on Wednesday December 7th against #7 Hesperia and Allendale. Panthers win the Battle for the Bridge 16-14

The West Ottawa Panthers will keep the hammer at home for the second a straight year. Hosted by Holland this year, the Battle for the Bridge is a friend scrimmage where both team match up wrestlers to get in a few exhibition matches prior to the start of the season. A sledgehammer is a spirit award given to the team that wins the most matches. This year, the Panthers squeaked by, winning 16 to 14 matches against the Dutch. The Panthers return to the mats November 29th for their Black n' White Inner Squad at home. |
